Subject: Security, T-Mobile named in lawsuits over data breach
The data breach that T-Mobile reported last week is already the subject
of two proposed federal class actions alleging it was negligent in
connection with the incident.
Last week, the “un-carrier” reported a data breach that involved about
37 million prepaid and postpaid customers. In a Securities and Exchange
Commission (SEC) filing Thursday, T-Mobile admitted that a “bad actor”
obtained data through a single Application Programming Interface (API).

Subject: Republicans Want to Force AT&T to Carry Trumpy Propaganda
Network
Newsmax has plenty of allies in Congress willing to wield their power
on its behalf
By Nikki Ramirez
lican lawmakers have rushed to the defense of far-right TV network
Newsmax after the channel was dropped by AT&T’s DirecTV. According to
the satellite television provider, the split stemmed from a carriage
fee dispute that would have resulted in “significantly higher costs”
and increased customer fees. The channel claims they are being
wrongfully censored for their political viewpoints, and have already
found allies amongst Republican lawmakers.

Subject: Telemarketing Lead Generators: How Many “Marketing
Partners” Is Too Many?
by Ellen T. Berge (Washington) and Shahin Rothermel (Washington)
For years, lead generators have obtained telephone numbers for their
clients to call by obtaining the consumer's consent to receive calls
from certain entities specifically identified by the lead generator. A
typical model uses language that asks for the consumer's consent, via a
checkbox or otherwise, to receive marketing calls from a few of the lead
generator's marketing partners named in the consent request.
A popular variation of this model is to include, instead of a list of
partners by name, a clickable reference to "marketing partners" in the
consent language. The specific marketing partners are visible only when
the consumer clicks the link and views whatever list of marketing
partner names the lead generator has provided.
