Subject: Verizon stock heads for worst year on record, and rival
AT&T has an 'extraordinary' lead
By Emily Bary
AT&T stock on track for 2022 performance nearly 25 percentage points
better than Verizon’s, which would be only the fourth time that has
happened since 1983
Shares of Verizon Communications Inc. are on track for their worst
annual performance on record following a string of subscriber losses

and the strength of its network.
Verizon shares VZ, +0.36% are down 27.3% so far in 2022 through
Wednesday, which would mark their worst annual percentage decline on

Subject: FCC Investigating AT&T’s 911 Outage
The Federal Communications Commission is investigating an alarming 911
outage that affected AT&T Wireless customers nationwide Wednesday.
Police departments in various cities reported the outage, with customers
unable to dial 911 from their cellphones. Police took to social media to
offer alternative, non-emergency phone numbers in case of emergency,
though that meant dispatchers were unable to see callers’ locations.
Although the issue was resolved late Wednesday, it was unclear what
caused the widespread outage. Ajit Pai, the chairman of the FCC,
announced an investigation into the incident on Twitter. “The FCC will
investigate the root cause of the outage and its impact,” he wrote.
