Message-ID: <20230512201923.GA273999@telecomdigest.us> Date: 12 May 2023 16:19:23 -0400 From: The Telecom Digest <telecomdigestsubmissions@telecom-digest.org> Subject: FCC Updates Spectrum Sharing Rules For NGSO FSS Satellites Preparing For A New Era In Satellite Services: The FCC Updates Spectrum Sharing Rules For NGSO FSS Satellites by Laura A. Stefani and Melanie English The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has made a long-awaited revision to its rules for spectrum sharing among non-geostationary (NGSO) fixed-satellite service (FSS) satellite constellations. A Report and Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, adopted at an Open Commission Meeting on April 20, 2023, clarifies protection obligations of NGSO FSS systems. In so doing, the FCC seeks to encourage the deployment of the next generation of satellites—many of which will be used to provide broadband services—with updated guidance to industry that will allow for better regulatory certainty, for both incumbent NGSO FSS systems and new entrants. https://www.mondaq.com/article/news/1313278?q=1803232&n=785&tp=3&tlk=12&lk=34

Schwartz On March 23, 2023, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC or the Commission) issued an 83-page Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (Notice) proposing dramatic changes to current cancellation requirements for companies selling products or services under a "negative option feature," i.e., a subscription, membership, a free or partially free trial that converts to a paid subscription, or other recurring-payment program that indefinitely renews unless a consumer affirmatively cancels or returns the goods or services.1 The Commission's proposed Rule would: (i) expand the types of negative option transactions covered by the Rule; (ii) increase the disclosure, consent, notification, and cancellation requirements for businesses; and (iii) expose sellers offering a negative option feature to potentially stiff financial penalties for alleged misrepresentations – even when those misrepresentations are unrelated to the negative option feature itself. These changes—and the open questions left were they to go into effect—are examined in more detail here. https://www.mondaq.com/article/news/1313174?q=1803232&n=785&tp=3&tlk=13&lk=35 -- (Please remove QRM for direct replies)

It wasn’t a panel on Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS), he said, although CBRS was a jumping-off point for the conversation. Yet as the discussion proceeded, it was clear that CBRS was on the minds of everyone on the panel and probably most of the audience. The panel was part of this week’s WIA Connect(X) conference. https://www.fiercewireless.com/wireless/t-mobile-charter-spar-over-cbrs-spectrum-sharing-models

The strike was organized by Colorado Independent Drivers United (CIDU), CWA Local 7777, and was led by a strike committee composed of 18 drivers. The strikers effectively shut down the holding lot at the airport, where drivers are required to wait for trip requests. Community allies, including elected officials and candidates for elected office, religious leaders, and leaders in the Black community joined the strikers. The Denver strike was part of a national day of action by Uber and Lyft drivers coordinated by PowerSwitch Action that included other driver actions in New York, Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. https://cwa-union.org/news/cwa-rideshare-workers-strike-safety-and-better-working-conditions
