Since 1988, the suburban area of Illinois has been in 708. Chicago and all of northern Illinois was in 312 until that time. Now, even 708 is full and new splits have been announced. The north suburbs of Chicago will go into 847 in January, 1996. This includes Evanston, Skokie, Wilmette, Lake Forest and Waukegan. The communities involved will be from Chicago north to the Wisconsin state line. The west suburbs will go into 630 later in 1996. This will include Oak Park, Wheaton, Downers Grove, Aurora and everything west to the present boundary of 815. 708 will only remain for the southern suburbs, from the southern end of Chicago out to the present boundary with 815. Chicago (312) will itself be divided late in 1996 with the downtown area remaining in 312 but everywhere else in the city going into 773.
